CEO began as a demonstration project of the Vera Institute of Justice in the 1970s to address employment barriers facing individuals after their release from incarceration. In 1996, CEO became an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, providing comprehensive employment services to people newly released from New York State prisons and detention facilities. We now operate in 31 cities across twelve states and have made more than 34,000 placements into full-time employment for individuals who were formerly incarcerated.

Job Corps is the largest nationwide residential career training program in the country and has been operating for more than 50 years. The program helps eligible young people ages 16 through 24 complete their high school education, trains them for meaningful careers, and assists them with obtaining employment. Job Corps has trained and educated over two million individuals since 1964.

Job Corps is the largest nationwide residential career training program in the country and has been operating for more than 50 years. The program helps eligible young people ages 16 through 24 complete their high school education, trains them for meaningful careers, and assists them with obtaining employment. Job Corps has trained and educated over two million individuals since 1964.

At Job Corps, students have access to room and board while they learn skills in specific training areas for up to three years. In addition to helping students complete their education, obtain career technical skills and gain employment, Job Corps also provides transitional support services, such as help finding employment, housing, child care, and transportation. Job Corps graduates either enter the workforce or an apprenticeship, go on to higher education, or join the military.

Serving youth county-wide, LEAP is a secondary bridging program which provides youth with 6 – 8 weeks of academic skill remediation, work readiness and life skill development as well as college and career exploration and preparation.

Paid Training Program (SD County Goodwill)

Our Paid Training Program is designed to train and prepare you for the workforce. It is a three-month, structured, part-time, hands-on training program with temporary positions in Retail, Donations, eCommerce, and Transportation Departments. We also offer a six-month, temporary position in our Maintenance Department.

Our Paid Training Program is designed to train and prepare you for the workforce. It is a three-month, structured, part-time, hands-on training program with temporary positions in Retail, Donations, eCommerce, and Transportation Departments. We also offer a six-month, temporary position in our Maintenance Department. You will have the opportunity to learn workplace skills and gain experience to pursue a career.

Individuals who successfully complete the training will be considered for regular employment at Goodwill San Diego or may receive FREE job search assistance from a Career Advisor at one of our Community Employment Centers.

If you are actively pursuing long-term employment and meet the eligibility requirements below, please enroll and apply at one of our Community Employment Centers today.

Eligibility: 

  • At least 16 years of age for eCommerce, Retail, and Donations Paid Training Programs
  • At least 18 years of age for Truck Driving Assistance and Maintenance Paid Training Programs
  • Must have a desire to obtain long-term employment after completion of the training program
  • Must be able to complete employment application and assessments independently
  • Must be able to work in the United States legally
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations
  • Must meet attendance requirements
  • Must be able to work 20 – 25 hours per week  (A daily work shift can range from 4 to 8 hours depending on the needs of the department and trainee)

Individuals who successfully complete the training will be considered for regular employment or Goodwill Career Advisors can provide job search assistance. If you are job ready and fit the eligibility requirements then enroll at one of our Community Employment Centers today.

Second Chance helps men and women successfully reenter the workforce and community. Specialized services, training and resources are available to help each person identify their personal goals and the steps to achieving them. This includes maintaining sobriety, securing employment, reunifying with family, pursuing education, among others.

COLLABORATIVE COURT PROGRAMS

Each year, more than nine million people cycle through local jails and more than 700,000 are released from state and federal prison. Collaborative court programs are designed to assist incarcerated individuals with a successful transition to their community.

JOB READINESS TRAINING

Job Readiness Training provides four weeks of pre-employment attitudinal and soft-skill training, job search, job placement assistance and post-placement services to lead people to permanent employment and self sufficiency.

HOUSING

Sober-living housing serves as a bridge between treatment and independent living.  Each home offers a highly structured environment, a sense of belonging and a safe place to ease back into the community.

Urban Corps has given thousands of underserved, low-income young adults ages 18-26 the opportunity to improve themselves while improving their own communities. Urban Corps’ unique work-learn program allows youth to finish high school while earning a paycheck, learning real-world job skills, and giving back to the community through professional services.

We provide a second chance at a high school education and paid job training designed to encourage civic engagement, responsibility, and self-sufficiency.

Youth Career Center Services – Access

In partnership with the San Diego Workforce Partnership Access empowers youth to meet the current and future workforce needs of employers throughout San Diego County. The goal is to find the intersection between what youth love to do, what they can be paid for, what employers need, and the education, training and support they need along their career pathway.

Description of Services:

In partnership with the San Diego Workforce Partnership Access empowers youth to meet the current and future workforce needs of employers throughout San Diego County. The goal is to find the intersection between what youth love to do, what they can be paid for, what employers need, and the education, training and support they need along their career pathway. Opportunity Youth programs are centered on helping youth align their interests and skills with education, training, and jobs.

Based on individual goals, interests, and circumstances, youth are supported in attaining high-school diplomas, enrolling in post-secondary education and/or occupational/technical skills training and designing plans to prepare for their selected career pathways.  Services are provided in partnership with San Diego County Office of Education, community colleges and universities, and other providers that assist youth obtain post-secondary degrees and/or industry-recognized certifications.  To increase work experience and skills, youth participate in employability training, internships, and supportive job opportunities that help them take the first steps to a successful career.

Eligibility:

  • Ages 14-24
  • Unemployed or underemployed
  • In School or Out of school
  • Identifies having a barrier to employment and/or low income

Youth aged 16-24 who are out of school, not in training or not working; and/or have experienced one or more of the following challenges are welcome to join with the team of dedicated Access staff to chart the course of a new future.  Youth with experiences such as previous incarceration, gang affiliation, substance abuse, pregnancy/parenting responsibilities, medical or emotional challenges, homelessness, foster care, immigration, and other issues are welcome.  Virtually all youth in the program have experienced trauma and continue to be at risk.

Community partners from the San Diego Unified School District, San Diego County Office of Education, San Diego Health and Services Department, probation and other law enforcement entities, and a number of community-based organizations help identify individuals who can benefit from program opportunities.  Self-referrals are also welcome.

In collaboration with schools like San Pasqual Academy, San Diego Workforce Innovation High Schools, San Diego County Office of Education,  San Diego Unified School District, and San Diego Community College District, Access also provides orientation, work readiness classes, and entry into additional career resources for 14 and 24-year-olds.

The Youth Employment Opportunity Program (YEOP) helps at-risk youth between the ages of 15 and 25, achieve their educational and vocational goals through a variety of specialized services. YEOP specialists are peer advisors with similar experiences who work with youth as mentors and career coaches.

The Youth Employment Opportunity Program (YEOP) helps at-risk youth between the ages of 15 and 25, achieve their educational and vocational goals through a variety of specialized services. YEOP specialists are peer advisors with similar experiences who work with youth as mentors and career coaches. They can provide referrals to supportive services, career coaching, employment preparation, and training.

The YEOP specialists help youth achieve their goals through a variety of services:

  • Peer advising allows youth to interact with professionals who have similar life experiences, identify their occupational interests, and develop career goals.
  • Referrals to supportive services based on the individual needs of youth. This can include transportation, childcare, housing assistance, and clothing community resources.
  • Education and career coaching with youth specialists. Clients will receive one-on-one guidance on educational and vocational opportunities.
  • Employment preparation and assistance through job search tools including resume and interview preparation, employer expectations, and customized job searches. Note: This is not a job placement or summer youth work experience program.
  • YEOP Workshops prepare students with team building and communication skills to help them through the hiring process. Workshop topics include resume writing, mock interviews, computer literacy, completing job applications, and more.
  • Referral to training providers including Regional Occupational Programs, General Educational Development Test centers with the purpose of receiving their High School Diploma or California High School Equivalency Certificate, and post-secondary education.
